Close Counter Terror World!

In a few days time, Olympia plays host the Counter Terror World, an exhibition at which companies and countries from around the world will share with each other lessons learned in the war on terror, a war on their own populations. Israel will be a prominent attendee, eager - no doubt - to share the lessons they've learned from the recent campaign in Lebanon and the ongoing repression in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Help stop biometric controls in workplace for migrant cleaners

ISS is the company that has been in the news this week for doing the nasty on the cleaners in the City of London. Now they are at it in the London Underground. Cleaners in the depots, where they clean the carriages, must now clock in and out using biometric machines that measure their unique fingers' proportions. All the cleaners are migrants, who will be the first target of biometric IDs and the like. They want to fight this but need help. Read more >>

Demo at RAF Brize Norton Dec 2

A national anti-war demonstration will take place at RAF Brize Norton on Sat., Dec. 2nd. Assemble noon on Carterton Rd near Brize Norton village for a 1 pm march past the main gate of the base to the Carterton Rec where there will be a rally with speakers. Cleaners occupy Goldman Sachs

Yesterday a small but determined group of low paid cleaners and their supporters occupied city firm Goldman Sachs. The demo was expected and all entrances had been closed except one. Police and extra security were evident. However the peaceful yet determined occupiers outnumbered the guards and soon the lobby was occupied by the demonstrators. Extra Police were brought in to control the gathering and escort them outside. Details were taken but there were no arrests. Read more >>

Riot in Harmondsworth

A riot started around 9 pm in B wing and seems to have spread to all wings. Some detainees have been beaten up. There are reports of fires being lit everywhere. Detainees have been locked up in their rooms in some parts of the centre. In others they are stll rioting.

Stop deportation and detention of Ethiopian asylum seekers

Kinijit's support organisation KSOUK in the UK has staged a demonstration today in front of the Minister for Immigration, Marsham Street. They are challenging the decision of the British government to detain and deport asylum seekers from Ethiopia.
Between 50 and 60 people took part, mostly Ethiopian refugees and their supporters.
Members fo the opposition face being imprisoned and tortured if deported back to Ethiopia.

Goldman Sachs Headquarters Occupied by Cleaners Union

Today at 12pm around 25 cleaners and supporters went into the lobby of Goldman Sachs Headquarters, despite attempts by security to kick them out. They were protesting at the treatment of cleaners by ISS, which is partially owned by Goldman Sachs, and demanded a deal with the TGWU. Read more >>

Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre - 'Not fit for Purpose'

Anne Owers HM Inspector of Prisons (HMIP) has published today a report on Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), the UK's largest immigration removal centre, stating that it was not performing satisfactorily against ANY of the Inspectorate's tests of a healthy custodial environment and that poor relationships between custody officers and detainees were "worse than had been seen at any other detention centre" and was "Undoubtedly the poorest report" issued by HMIP of any IRC to date.
