LSE occupation continues into fifth day as other universities start protests

19-01-2009 18:41

LSE students have occupied the Old Theatre
tudents occupying a lecture theatre at the London School of Economics have continued their demonstration in to the fifth day.

Over forty students started the occupation in solidarity with Palestine last Thursday afternoon demanding that the LSE condemns Israeli aggression, divests from BAE, a firm that arms Israel, and provides material support for Palestinians. The students are demanding that the LSE waivers application fees and provides more scholarships for Palestinian students, sends surplus computers and books to Palestine and facilitates a cross-campus collection for Medical Aid for Palestine.

The Plight of Al Samouni Family in Gaza: in their own voices

19-01-2009 11:51

The story of Al Samouni’s family of Gaza is tragic and appalling. According to Al Haq’s field research members, the story began on Saturday, 3 January 2009, with Israeli incursion into and firing at the Al Zaytoun neighborhood.

The following day, on 4 January 2009, Israeli occupying forces bombed the same area killing one Palestinian.

The planes are still buzzing overhead, but there have been no explosions near me today. However this supposed ceasefire from Israeli’s side since 2am does not seem to have extended to Beit Hanoun, where there was shelling this morning and F16s were attacking.

You can see 4 video clips I took during the attacks on the Al Quds hospital and local people, at on the ISM website here, including my medic mates rescuing Jasmeen after she’d seen her sister and dad shot.

John Mearsheimer: Israel's Real Purpose In Its Atrocities in Gaza

19-01-2009 10:31

John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago, co-author of the paper (available online) and subsequent book (with Stephen Walt) _The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy_, presents a concise timeline description and absolutely the clearest account of the true reason behind Israel's wanton atrocities in Gaza.

Mearsheimer argues that diminishing Hamas or stopping their rockets are subsidiary goals for Israel, to Israel's more central goal of controlling all of historical Palestine via an "Iron Wall" policy that would permanently subjugate the Palestinian people and ensure Israeli control of all Palestinian land, air, water, borders/sea, and economy.

Mearsheimer points out that this goal cannot be achieved, and certainly not by the brutal method of a total war on the Palestinian people. The likely outcome even in the case of relative Israeli success is a permanent Apartheid, which itself will [thankfully] doom Israel as a chauvinistically and exclusionary "Jewish State"[and its racist state ideology of Zionism].

Lee Kaplan solicits murder of ISMers on his blog after his site gets pulled

19-01-2009 00:29

A few days ago a site called  http://www.stoptheism.com/ hosted in Canada and run by a Lee Kaplan of San Francisco was downed.

The site contained an offer of a bounty for precise locations of named ISMers in Gaza with the explicit intention to pass their details on to the IDF and have them killed.

Does Lee know it is a felony to solicit murder in the USA?

I know some people who do about that kind of thing:

March in Middlesbrough - Stop the war, End the Seige of Gaza

18-01-2009 19:08

Waiting outside the Park
Three thousand people marched in Middlesbrough on Saturday 17th January, for the first time in DECADES. Apparently, Teesside has never seen a protest this big since the miners' strikes and protests outside the coal mines! We chanted, marched, waved flags and banners, all in solidarity with the people of Gaza. The march culminated in a rally with speakers, including Yvonne Ridley and various MPs, and the spokesman from the Socialist Worker Party.
